Arizona Diversion Tunnel8 viewsThis is the diversion tunnel used when the Dam was made. It is 50 feet wide, 4000 feet long and was dug, by hand, in 18 months. The Colorado River was pushed through this tunnel and 3 others so the Dam could be built. This one and one other on the Nevada side are used in the event of high water in Lake Mead so no water has to cross the Dam.
